Homemade hummus, staring chickpeas and tahini takes minutes to prepare with a few ingredients found in the pantry. The taste without the chemicals found in store-bought hummus is worth the effort.
Ingredients
20 ounces chickpeas or garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
2 teaspoons whole cumin seed
2 to 4 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed
2 lemons, juiced and strained
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 cup tahini (sesame paste)
1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Place all ingredients in a food processor. Blend. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula and blend until smooth.
Serve with crudités, crackers or pita bread.
Tip
Try using hummus as a sandwich spread.
