Home made ice cream is easy to make, cost-effective, and more delicious than any store-bought brand. The recipe for chocolate ice cream has four ingredients.
Review the instructions for the ice cream maker. Freeze the bowl completely. Freezing time could range between 6 and 22 hours. Shake the bowl, if you do not hear liquid moving, the bowl is frozen.
For the liquid
1 quart half and half
1 cup sugar
For vanilla ice cream
1 vanilla bean
Place a cup of sugar and 1 cup of half and half in a small sauce pan.
Add vanilla bean for vanilla ice cream
Set the stove to medium-high and cook, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
Pour into a glass container.
For chocolate ice cream
1 cup unsweetened cocoa
Add the unsweetened cocoa. Mix when the mixture has cooled.
Refrigerate for at least 6 hours.
Set up the ice cream maker. Place the freezer bowl on the base of the machine, add the mixing arm and the outer lid. Turn on the machine. Pour in the sweetened cup of half and half.
Add the puréed fruit and the remaining half and half. Churn until the ice cream almost doubles in bulk, around 20 minutes.
Serve immediately. Store in the freezer.
For fruit, 1 cup puréed banana, mango, peach, raspberries, strawberries
Substitute heavy cream for half and half.
Use 2 cups heavy cream and 2 cups half and half.
The ice cream will expand as it freezes, take care not to overfill the ice cream machine.
