Spicy Nuts

Spicy nuts are perfect for appetizers and snacks. You will find me hovering over the spicy nut dish at any party. This simple recipe packs a tasty protein punch.

For the spices

2 teaspoons all spice powder
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons cinnamon powder
2 teaspoons cumin powder

For the nuts

2 cups unsalted mixed nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, walnuts)
3 tablespoons butter or olive oil

1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup water

Heat the nuts in a dry 9 inch skillet set to medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the nuts begin to brown, about 4 minutes.

Add the butter or olive oil and cook, stirring until the nuts begin to darken, about 1 minute.

Add the salt, spices, sugar and water. Cook, stirring until the sugar thickens and the
nuts are glazed, about 5 minutes.

Cool. Place  in an air-tight container.

Tip

Make in advance and store in the freezer.
