Homemade applesauce is a snap to make and can serve as a delightful side dish or healthy dessert.

6 apples, peeled
1/2 cup of orange juice
1 lemon, squeezed and strained

1/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Peel the apples and place them on a cutting board. Cut into 8 pieces. Remove the seeds and the core. Cut each piece in half and place in a large sauce pan. Repeat this process for the remaining apples. Add the orange and lemon juice to the sauce pan.

Place the sauce pan on the stove set to medium. Cook, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes.
Crush with a potato masher. Remove from the stove when the apples are soft.

Add the sugar and cool. Taste. Adjust the sugar according to your taste.. Pack in a container.
Garnish with cinnamon. Refrigerate.

Tip

Delicious and Fuji apples are very sweet, Granny Smith are crisp and tart, and apple varieties from local farms are on my list to try.

Peeling apples can be accomplished while watching television.
